The Tampa Bay Businesses for Culture & the Arts partner with Kaleidoscope Festival to promote Arts, Culture, History & Science
The Kaleidoscope Festival is a world-class art, science and cultural experience for children and their families for the Tampa Bay area. At the festival, there will be the opportunity to have a hands on experience that will be both educational and fun. The Kaleidoscope Festival was established in August 2002 by leaders from local Tampa Arts organizations, the South Tampa Chamber of Commerce and the Interbay Peninsula Partnership and incorporated as a non-profit organization in 2003. These interested Tampa Bay community leaders initially sought to provide an annual spring cultural event that offered hands-on educational and fun experiences for school children of Hillsborough County. The festival, held for the last 5 years in South Tampa, seeks to introduce young children to a wide range of fun and educational art, music, science and cultural experiences. The festival has been successful through local community support, as it seeks to provide elementary and middle school aged children an opportunity they might not ever have - to explore and play musical instruments, engage in many interactive art and science activities, participate in community drum circles, and observe unique professional music and dance performances.
When: March 13, 2010
Where: Hyde Park Village
The Kaleidoscope Festival is still looking for corporate partnerships and volunteers. Please contact Kim Pierson at 813-765-0884 or email her at

National Business + Local Arts Community = International Recognition
What does a worldwide charity, a national public relations firm and the Tampa Bay Businesses for Culture & the Arts, (TBBCA) all share in common? Local artist and inventor of the resist painting technique, Elio López, that’s what.. Vitamin Angels, Inc., a not-for-profit organization that combats blindness in children of third world nations hired the public relations firm, Pitch, Inc. to help host and recognize three of their largest contributors in Los Angeles this past July.
Pitch, Inc. developed the novel idea of creating a one-of-a-kind award. An award that would not only show Vitamin Angel’s deep gratitude, but one that would stand out with pride, never to be put away on a shelf. “I was thinking of having three works of art created that, when viewed together, would create a full picture, “ Pitch, Inc.’s Amy Summers explains. “Yet, when viewed apart, would still remain a finished picture.” Ms. Summers contacted the Tampa Bay Businesses for Culture & the Arts, (TBBCA) in search of the right artist for the project. The TBBCA put the young executive in contact with local artist, Elio López and the gears went into motion from there.
Working from Ms. Summer’s initial idea, the artist created a triptych that was an immediate hit with everyone involved. “At first I had this grandiose idea utilizing an abstract design built from shapes of angels and eyes, way too much really,” the artist said. “But when Amy showed me the pictures of the kids that had benefited from the Vitamin Angels program…everything changed.” Instead the artist used the photos to create composite characters that beam out at the viewer from behind a red stage curtain. The awards were very well received at the gala event.
For more information on Vitamin Angels, just visit their website, www.vitaminangels.org, or contact Amy Summers at www.pitchpublicity.com. The artist may be contacted through his website, www.arteespanol.us . He is available for commissions or studio viewings.
