The TBBCA is proud to support young artists with The Charlie Hounchell Art Stars Scholarship. Previously named the High School Art Stars Scholarship, the program has been renamed to honor the TBBCA's former Board President, Charlie Hounchell, who passed away unexpectedly this year. The scholarship program was developed and championed by Hounchell in 2007 and has since awarded $92,500 to Bay area students who wish to pursue careers in the arts.
The scholarship program is open to rising high school juniors and seniors in Hillsborough, Pinellas or Pasco counties who excel at vocal or instrumental music, theatre, dance, visual arts or literary arts. Winners are selected based on merit and may use the award to cover tuition expenses at the university, college or professional arts training program of his or her choice.
Art Stars alumni represent some of the most talented and promising young artists and performers in the nation. They are currently attending such prestigious schools as New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, Cincinatti Conservatory of Music, The Juilliard School, Carnegie Mellon University, Savannah College of Art & Design, The University of Miami and Virginia Commonwealth University's School of the Arts.
