Hillsborough County
Acorn Theatre – a wonderful new addition
to the theatre world in Tampa Bay. The principals hope to purchase
the historic Rialto
Theatre on north Franklin Street and develop a six hundred-seat
house in which they will present a wide range of professional theatre
productions.
The team includes a director and a technical expert with training
experience at Disney.
Artists Unlimited, Inc. - a converted warehouse
in the Channelside District providing space for about thirty artists.
The facility
also provides exhibit space and a gift shop as a retail outlet
for the
resident artists. In addition, AUI administers a full range of
studio classes for students of all ages.
Bonk Festival - this organization
produces an annual festival featuring contemporary classical music
in a collaboration of local and guest
artists from around the world.
Excellence Through the Arts - uses
the musical experience to motivate at-risk children to improve
their academic achievement. The program
trains them in performance skills on steel drums, percussion, chorus,
etc., thus increasing discipline and self-esteem through success.
Participation in the program then depends on academic improvement.
Students going through the program have demonstrated consistent
gains in study habits and grades.
Florida Pro Musica - an outstanding
chamber orchestra composed of forty-five singers and instrumentalists
who set the bar for
quality
in musical production. They do performances in both Hillsborough
and Pinellas counties and provide master classes for young people.
Gulf
Coast Youth Choirs - consists of five choirs of different ages
from five bay area counties. The organization provides both
artistic
instruction and performance opportunities. Participants have performed
at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center, have toured England & Wales
and have performed locally with the Master Chorale of Tampa Bay.
They do numerous choral events annually.

Master Chorale is a very
high quality local choral organization that works in conjunction
with but as a separate entity from the
Florida
Orchestra. Its artistic director, Richard Zielinski, is a professor
of music at USF and is leading this highly respected group to new
artistic heights. They are, however, concerned with further developing
their management skills and are looking for new board members.
Prodigy - a subsidiary of the University Area Community Development Corporation.
Prodigy offers visual & performing arts programs
for inner city children, designed to help with crime intervention & prevention
in the "Suitcase City" area near USF.
Renaissance Center
for the Arts - located in a restored church near Tampa Heights,
is developing an innovative after school care
program
for at-risk children featuring the visual arts, music and gardening.
Spanish
Lyric Theatre - this professional musical theater company has staged
traditional Spanish musical productions in both Spanish
and English for over forty years, thus preserving the heritage
of some of Tampa's oldest immigrants.
Stageworks both produces award-winning
plays for Tampa's theater going audiences as well as providing
significant school outreach
programs dealing with important social issues that speak to young
people in their own language.

Tampa Bay Children's Chorus - artistic
director is Averill Summer, a highly respected USF music professor
and music director. The
chorus has performed frequently with the Florida Orchestra, the
Master Chorale,
and has toured Europe and performed at Carnegie Hall. They are
looking for strong board leadership to help them move to the next
level of
excellence.
Very Special Arts is a statewide organization that serves
disabled artists of every type, including physical, emotional and
mental.
They provide opportunities for artists to create, display and disseminate
their works. VSA is looking for a new board member, specifically
a CPA to serve as treasurer. The board meets just three times a
year, although the treasurer also serves on the executive and finance
committees,
which meets more frequently.
Pinellas County
Dunedin Fine Art Center serves as a major cultural
anchor for the town of Dunedin. The director has created a high
quality institution,
which offers art classes in many different media and provides exhibit
space for students and faculty as well as a gift shop. The Center
also provides imaginative hands-on educational experiences for
children in its exhibit space.
Florida Craftsmen located in St.
Petersburg, provides exhibit space for the highest quality contemporary
craftwork produced by artists
throughout the state. It also features lectures, workshops, demonstrations
and educational events.

Live Arts Peninsula Foundation works to
preserve Tampa Bay's historical, artistic, and cultural heritage
by producing original theatre projects
and supporting community artists. It has staged Webb's City: The
Musical, a celebration of J. E. Webb who built a St. Petersburg
landmark, "The
World's Most Unusual Drugstore," and Manhattan Casino, based
on a famous jazz nightclub in the city's historical black district.
Royalty
Theatre is housed in a beautifully restored historic building
in downtown Clearwater. It stages play, musical performances and
a variety of productions for local performing arts organizations.
St.
Petersburg Little Theater promotes live theatre entertainment
by developing and encouraging non-professional theater participation.
SPLT stages six main stage productions each season and provide
classes and workshops on topics such as performance and technical
aspects.
West Florida Ballet - this organization, newly emerging
as a not-for-profit arm of a dance school, is striving to develop
itself as a fully
developed performance institution. As such, it is looking
for enthusiastic board members who will give it the professional
guidance it needs.
