  • Creative Pinellas Call to Artists for Tampa Bay Rays & Tampa Bay Rowdies series of prints

    TBBCA Cultural pARTner Creative Pinellas has issued a Call for Artists to launch a series of prints designed by artists in Tampa Bay, to celebrate our MLB and USL teams The Tampa Bay Rays and the Tampa Bay Rowdies and to honor the authentic, unique culture of our region. The goal of the project is to create a series of fun, unique prints that bring artists and fans together around a community-oriented, accessible art collectible.
    Artists from Charlotte, Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk or Sarasota counties are invited to submit a brief application, CV and 3-5 portfolio samples by the deadline of March 1 at 11:59 p.m. A panel of artists, curators and other professionals will select the artists who will be invited to create the poster designs. Each artists should create a piece that represents their own style, perspective and interpretation of the Rays/Rowdies brand. Artist Compensation: $1,000 + other exciting benefits to be announced Prints will be created for the following games:

    February 22, 2019 St. Petersburg, FL — TBBCA Cultural pARTner the literary nonprofit organization Keep St. Pete Lit has launched a poster design competition for the upcoming 5th Annual SunLit Festival (April 11-28, 2019). The poster competition is part of the festival’s commitment to support and advance the enjoyment of the literary arts and engage the local community. Open to all Florida residents, the competition gives artists the opportunity to create an iconic design that celebrates the vibrancy of Florida’s literary scene and promotes the 5th Annual SunLit Festival. The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of $500 and spotlight at the SunLit Festival in St. Petersburg.
    Artists should digitally submit their poster designs to keepstpetelit@gmail.com. by the deadline Friday, March 15, 2019 at 5 p.m. All poster designs submitted must be original artwork. Up to two poster design submissions are accepted per person, though all entries must be submitted on an individual basis and no shared work is allowed. Creativity and different artistic styles are encouraged. Any mixed media suitable for reproduction as a poster is allowed, including computer-generated graphics. Posters must be two-dimensional. Poster design can be horizontal or vertical, and must be scalable to 8.5” x 11″. No trademarked or copyrighted images or phrases should be used, with the exception of the SunLit logo. Artist budget is $20,000 inclusive of fabrication, materials, installation, programming, etc. Three finalists will receive a stipend of $200 for a professional design proposal.     Hillsborough Community College is celebrating 50 years and announces a CALL to current and former HCC alumni, students, staff and faculty. Did you attend one of HCC visual and performing arts classes? Do you have a special talent that you would like to show off? Share your talents with the community to honor HCC Ybor City campus! HCC is looking for uniquely fun and entertaining performances by performing artists who have been inspired by HCC. All artistic disciplines are eligible (dance, theatre, film/video, music, performance-based arts and interdisciplinary arts.
    Are you a former student who has gone on to perform on Broadway? Is your music ensemble filled with HCC alumni who perform locally? Have you become a director/producer since attending HCC? HCC is looking to reconnect with you and involve you in this showcase.

    Guidelines for Submissions – Performances should be:
    1) Entertaining, fun and accessible for a very diverse audience.
    2) No longer than 6 minutes in length.
    3) Family friendly. No adult material.
    4) Well-rehearsed and should require minimal technical support.
    5) Available to perform on performance date and attend technical rehearsal listed below.
    Performance date: Thursday, October 11th at 7:30 pm in the Mainstage Theatre with Technical rehearsal slots will be assigned for October 10th once program has been selected.
    **There will be a run through of the entire showcase on October 10th beginning at 5:30 pm.

    Applicants will be notified of selections by September 10th.

  • Call to Artists Clearwater Downtown Murals

    The city of Clearwater’s Community Redevelopment Agency, in partnership with the Clearwater Public Art and Design Board and the Downtown Development Board, is seeking artists to design and paint a series of murals on public and private properties throughout Downtown Clearwater.
    Applications are due July 9. The selected artists will be notified by July 20. Murals must be completed by Jan. 31. The budget for each mural will range from $5,000 – $20,000 depending on the size and complexity of the artwork.
    This is the first large scale mural project in Downtown Clearwater. It will help set the tone for future public art projects. The CRA seeks to establish a visual look and feel that distinguishes Downtown Clearwater from Clearwater Beach and surrounding communities.
    City officials said they are seeking experienced mural artists with a strong point of view and the ability to create complex, engaging designs. Artists are welcome to use Clearwater’s history, signature events and physical environment as inspiration; however, the final designs must go beyond the simple visual representation of an object or event.
    These sites have been confirmed to receive murals:
    Garden Street Parking Garage, 28 N Garden Ave.;
    the Flag Company (aka Vet’s Flags), 1360 Cleveland St.;
    Creative Contractors (trail side), 620 Drew St.;
    Commercial Building, 512 Cleveland St.; and
    Clearwater Tower Parking Garage (the portion facing Station Square Park), 33 N Garden Ave.
    The exact size of the mural and location on the building will be determined in collaboration with the CRA staff, the artist and the property owner.

    Call to Artists MFA St. Pete Great Hall holiday display

    The Museum of Fine Arts in downtown St. Petersburg invites artists from Pinellas, Hillsborough, Hernando, Manatee, Pasco and Sarasota counties to propose the design for an artistic holiday display in the Great Hall based on the theme of harmony. Artists are requested to consider the Great Hall in its entirety for an immersive design in keeping with the theme of harmony.
    The Museum will provide a stipend of $10,000 to cover artist fee and fabrication costs.
    Artists working in any medium are invited to apply as long as the design remains within the fabrication budget and all ornaments and decorative elements created hang safely on the Holiday Tree, which measures approximately 14 feet high by 6 feet across.

    Visit Tampa Bay and the Arts Council of Hillsborough County are calling all local artists to enter for a chance to have their art featured on the cover of Visit Tampa Bay’s 2019 Official Visitor’s Guide.
    “Visit Tampa Bay prides itself on publishing a visitor’s guide that shows off the destination’s best and brightest talent every year,” says Visit Tampa Bay president and CEO, Santiago Corrada, “Giving a local artist a chance to be featured in our cover pays homage to the amazing talent we have right here in Hillsborough County.”
    Published annually, the visitor’s guide promotes Tampa Bay as a vibrant tourism and convention destination and is distributed to 150,000 national and international media, tour operators and meeting planners throughout the year.
    “The Arts Council is thrilled to collaborate with Visit Tampa Bay in this endeavor,” says Martine Meredith Collier, executive director of the Arts Council of Hillsborough County, “Arts and tourism are natural partners, and this contest provides an opportunity for those who know the community best—our residents—to highlight what makes Tampa Bay special to them.”

    Tampa Bay Lightning 7th Annual Open Call to Artists

    Tampa Bay Lightning is excited to announce the launch of their Seventh Annual Open Call to Artists exhibition at Amalie Arena and invite Lightning fans and members of the local arts community to submit pieces of original artwork to be hung for display in Amalie Arena during the 2018-2019 season. In the exhibit’s first six years, over 250 local pieces of art have been displayed for the Arena’s estimated 1.5 million annual visitors…this exhibition has not only brought tremendous awareness to the talent of our local emerging artists but it has also directly benefited the artists as all art is for sale, with proceeds directly going to the artist. The Lightning will be joined by representatives from the Tampa Museum of Art, Museum of Fine Arts, the Ringling Museum of Art and the Dali Museum to help select the winning pieces. Artists are encouraged to visually celebrate Tampa Bay and its people so that Amalie Arena can exude the vibrancy and energy of the community. Please feel free to be creative and depict anything and everything that inspires you locally….and if you are able to weave in the love of hockey, even better! Artists of all ages welcome, and special category for artists under 18 years of age.
    The unveiling and reception will be held in late September to early October 2018. Key dates:

    • Artists must live/work in the greater Tampa Bay area.

    • Size restrictions: All hanging artwork shall be no larger than 6’x6′ (including frame). Wall-hanging sculpture is limited to 7′ tall with varying widths accepted.

    Tammy Archer announced winner of TBBCA Call to Artists for 2018 Gasparilla Music Festival Poster Contest sponsored by Hill Ward Henderson in partnership with Tampa Bay Businesses for Culture and the Arts

    TAMPA, Fla. (February 28, 2018) The 7th annual Gasparilla Music Festival (GMF) Poster Contest winner Tammy Archer’s original artwork will be unveiled at GMF’s Soundcheck Party Wednesday, February 28th, 2018. Tampa Bay Businesses for Culture & the Arts (TBBCA) issued the Call to Artists and organized the contest, which was presented by Hill Ward Henderson. Artists from throughout the greater Tampa Bay area submitted original works of art to TBBCA. Judges including Sarah Howard, USF IRA Curator for Public Art and Social Practice, and the GMF Poster Committee evaluated submissions based on concept, originality and creativity, and how well they incorporated GMF and Tampa Bay’s wide diversity of culture into its design adaptability. Tammy Archer’s selected winning entry will be recognized as the Official Commemorative Poster of the 2018 Gasparilla Music Festival that will take place in Curtis Hixon Riverfront Park and Kiley Gardens Park on March 10 & 11. Meet the artist and have your poster signed at the festival both Saturday and Sunday 2:00 – 3:00 PM at the Kiley Garden merchandise tent.

    Archer said of her winning original art submission, “I combined my interest in visual arts and music for the 2018 Gasparilla Music Festival, and drew inspiration from the song, “Open Your Eyes” by Phillip Phillips. With my mixed media “Open Your Eyes and Open Your Heart”, I wanted to show love and unity, and how in society, music and art hold a very inspirational and spiritual meaning to all. They both create energy in our minds, hearts and souls, and bring together people of all walks of life”.

    As winning artist, Archer will receive a cash award and VIP ticket packages to GMF 2018, and her bio will be featured in the GMF program and on GMF social media sites. There will also be a featured poster-signing session at the festival, and recognition at the GMF Soundcheck Party. Other selected finalists will be present and their artworks auctioned at the GMF VIP event, with proceeds split 50% to the artist and 50% to benefit Gasparilla Music Foundation arts education and Recycled Tunes program.

    Tammy Archer was born and raised in a small country town in New York. Tammy has been developing her artistic skills and talents since early childhood. In 2003, her strong desire to create artwork and entrepreneurial spirit led Tammy to turn her art into a full-time passion and small business. She began selling her artworks at art festivals in New York and online. In just 5 years, Tammy sold over 1200 paintings on Ebay. After moving to Florida in 2008, Tammy opened her art studio and gallery in Sebring. Tammy loves fishing and being outdoors, taking in all of what Mother Nature has to offer. This is evidenced and reflected in her artwork’s signature style of bringing ideas to life with vibrant colors and bold lines.
