  • TBBCA is thrilled to pARTner with Hyde Park Village for a special competition

    TBBCA Open Call to Tampa Bay Artists!

    TBBCA is thrilled to pARTner with Hyde Park Village and invite members of the local arts community to digitally submit original artwork to TBBCA for a special competition. Subject matter of submitted artwork should be inspired by the art of Deborah Kass, as represented in Hyde Park Village’s “Public Art Initiative” new banner installation. A panel of expert judges will select 10 artists from the submissions received. A poster copy of each of the 10 winning artists’ digital submissions will be publicly displayed at TBBCA Cultural Encounter with pARTner Hyde Park Village on Thursday, June 25, 2015. One winning artist will be awarded prize money of $250.

    TBBCA and pARTner Hyde Park Village are sponsoring this Call to Artists and June 25th Cultural Encounter with the goal to generate awareness and appreciation of public art and of artists’ talent by integrating local and emerging Tampa Bay artists with Hyde Park Village’s art by Deborah Kass new public banner installation. This special event will be open to the public and press. Special guest and TBBCA IMPACT Awards 2015 “Patron of Culture & the Arts” honoree will be announced and introduced. The announcements, art display and prize awarding will be followed by a reception at Piquant restaurant in Hyde Park Village.

    Deborah Kass (B. 1952) lives and works in Brooklyn. Kass employs the visual motifs of post-war painting to explore the intersection of politics, popular culture, art history and personal identity. Her work is in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art, New York; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; The Jewish Museum, New York; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; The National Portrait Gallery, Washington D.C. as well as numerous public and private collections. A mid-career retrospective Deborah Kass, Before and Happily Ever After was presented at The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in fall 2012. Kass is represented by Vincent Fremont and the Paul Kasmin Gallery.

  • Fourth Annual Gasparilla Music Festival Announces Poster Contest, Artist Call for Entries

    All Tgmfampa Bay area artists with a passion for music are invited to enter the fourth annual Gasparilla Music Festival (GMF) poster contest. The submission receipt deadline is 6:00 p.m., Monday, December 15, 2014.

    The 2015 festival will take place at Curtis Hixson Riverfront Park and Kiley Gardens Park on March 7th & 8th and will feature musical acts from a wide variety of genres on several stages and cuisine from the region’s top restaurants. The poster design should be an artistic representation of GMF. Artists are encouraged to incorporate Tampa Bay’s wide diversity of culture into its design; however, artists are discouraged from using “Gasparilla” themes such as pirates, boats or beads. Including the GMF name or logo in the artwork is not necessary.

    Entries will be judged by the GMF Poster committee. Submissions will be evaluated based on concept, originality, layout and marketing adaptability.

    The winning poster design will be announced at the GMF VIP Sound Check party on February 26, 2015 and will be recognized as the Official Commemorative Poster of the 2015 Gasparilla Music Festival.

    The winning artist will receive:

    • Two (2) VIP tickets, valid for both days of the festival ($300 value).
    • Featured bio in the festival program.
    • Recognition on GMF social media sites.
    • A print of your poster, which will be gifted to GMF sponsors and individual donors.
    • Featured poster-signing session at the festival.
    • Possibility your artwork will be reproduced as the “official” festival T-shirt.

    By entering the contest, you agree that all submissions become the property of GMF and will be auctioned off at the GMF Sound Check.  Artists may set the minimum bid and will receive half the proceeds of the sale of their artwork. (Top sale in 2014 was $800.00.) The remaining half will be used to support GMF’s outreach programs, including Recycled Tunes which provides refurbished instruments to area schools. Unsold items may be returned to the artist at their request; however all images remain the property of GMF and may be used in future festival promotions.

    GUIDELINES FOR ENTRY

    • The GMF poster contest is open to all artists residing in the Tampa Bay region.
    • Limit to one entry per artist.
    • Entries must be an original art piece (any medium) that is production-ready, vertical poster format and framed or matted.
    • Canvas size must scale to 24”x36”.
    • On the back of each entry, please include the artist’s name, address, phone number and email address.

    Artwork must be delivered to Tampa Bay Businesses for Culture & the Arts, 633 North Franklin Street, Suite 735, Tampa, FL on or before the submission deadline at 6:00 p.m., Monday, December 15, 2014. Please contact Jennifer Douglas at jenniferdouglas@tbbca.org to coordinate your delivery.

    The Gasparilla Music Festival is a 501c-3 nonprofit that organizes an annual music festival in downtown Tampa. The 2015 festival will take place in Curtis Hixson Riverfront Park and Kiley Gardens Park on March 7th & 8th and will feature musical acts from a wide variety of genres on several stages and cuisine from the region’s top restaurants. As part of its mission to support and promote music and education, the organization is involved throughout the year in several initiatives, including providing scholarships to music students.
