The Salvador Sponsors An Open Call for Artists in Partnership with Local Business and USF Students

St. Petersburg, FL. (January 19, 2016) — Attention University of South Florida (USF) student artists: The Salvador wants your best surrealistic sculpture design. The Salvador, a new condominium tower currently under construction in the heart of the Arts and Innovation District of Downtown St. Petersburg is looking for student artists to compete for a chance to have a permanent sculpture displayed in the new lobby. DDA Development, The Salvador’s development company, has teamed up with USF, Tampa Bay Businesses for Culture and the Arts (TBBCA), and the Salvador Dali Museum to create a distinctive design and character that matches the spirit of the local community.

Located in the heart of the Arts and Innovation District of Downtown St. Pete and next door to the USF St. Petersburg Campus, The Salvador is dedicated to supporting the dynamic local culture that defines this area. The condominium tower is inspired by the art of Salvador Dali and features an artful, modern design throughout the lobby and units. It is calling for student artists from USF to create surrealistic sculptures that can be transformed into 3-D printed sculptures to reflect the artful spirit of the building and surrounding community. Workshops will be held at the USF Tampa Campus to provide opportunities for sculpture artists and digital artists to collaborate. Five winning sculptures will be displayed in The Salvador lobby with cash prizes for the top design and two runner-ups. The curators for The Salvador art display are Hank Hine; Curator and Executive Director of the Dali Museum, Yann Weymouth; Architect of the Dali Museum, and Sarah Howard; Curator of Public Art and Social Practice.

The design competition is an innovative collaboration between The Salvador’s development company, local area businesses, and the educational community. The Salvador supports and is a part of the growing innovation and arts community that is defining the area. “This contest goes along with our core philosophy of supporting local artists and businesses. The Salvador’s team members – from concept to creation and construction – all have roots in the Tampa Bay region, which lends itself to the green, locally sourced, and sustainable structure we are creating. Getting to know the local student artists and seeing their innovative ideas supports the artful, innovation that we feel The Salvador will be bringing to the community” says Bowen Arnold of DDA Development.

Entries for the contest must be submitted by February 5, 2016, and winners will be announced on February 10, 2016. For information on the contest, including guidelines and instructions on design submissions, visit http://thesalvador.com/2015/12/10/call-for-artists/
